Excerpt from An Abridged History of the SpaceTime Wars:

“Time and Space used to be the same branch of magic. But as the mages practicing them learned more and more about the different aspects of time and space, some devoted their energies to manipulating one, while others took to studying the other. The Striders and the Chronomancers arose. In their infancy they were allies, and learned much from each other. For instance, time is manipulated by gravity, which is a property of space. But that has not been studied seriously in centuries.

“The Striders and Chronomancers built the access portals to the Library. The Library had been in existence for eternity, it seems, and had always been maintained by humans. The Scribes already there, however, could tell the Striders and Chronomancers nothing of their own origins. They existed outside of other time domains, and were forbidden to speak of their own time, or anyone else's.

“The Scribes took young mages of both sides to train up in the noble profession of writing the chronicles of the universe. It was shortly thereafter that the SpaceTime Wars began.”
